News about Glass Town Wars

Calia is thrilled to announce Glass Town Wars, her first YA novel for over six years! Inspired by the early writings of the Brontë siblings, she has taken the magical world that the siblings created and written an ambitious, intricate and innovative novel, featuring the Brontës as you have never seen them before, a teenage boy and an action-packed plot full of epic battles, new loves and old passions.

Celia said, 'I've always been fascinated by imaginary worlds. My starting point was: girl from the past meets boy from the future in a world that spilled from a box of toy soldiers. A world conjured by four remarkable children of seemingly limitless imagination and written into tiny books. But as they grow and change, the world that they have created bursts out of the confines of the postage stamp pages. Epic exploration and daring adventure morph into darker themes of war, romance and revolution fed by powerful emotions: love and loyalty, jealousy, possession and hatred. Anyone caught up in this vortex risks being destroyed.'

Celia is perhaps best known for Witch Child, which has sold nearly 200,000 copies, been translated into more than 30 languages and was shortlisted for the Guardian Children's Fiction Prize. Glass Town Wars reunites Celia with her editor Sarah Odedina, who Celia says it is 'a complete joy' to be working with again.

Sarah said, 'Celia has created a brilliant, fast-paced story full of drama, tension and love. We are so excited to be publishing this brave and original book which will delight Celia's fans both old and new. Celia is a writer with a rich and completely fresh imagination. She has created something startlingly original which plays a brilliant balancing act between a deep appreciation of history and a radical vision of the future.'

Glass Town Wars will publish November 1st, and Celia cannot wait. 'It is always a special moment when one first sees the cover and this one certainly doesn't disappoint. I can't wait to hold a finished copy!
